I bet you’ve never learned of this before! A 1940 mid-air collision occurred over Australia. Both Avro Ansons of a flying training school remained locked together after colliding, and then landed safely.

July 6th, 2017 by admin

The collision stopped the engines of the upper Anson, but those of the machine underneath continued to run, allowing the pair of aircraft to keep flying. Both navigators and the pilot of the lower Anson bailed out. The pilot of the upper Anson found that he was able to control the interlocked aircraft with his ailerons and flaps, and made an emergency landing in a nearby paddock. All four crewmen survived the incident, and the upper Anson was repaired and returned to flight service.

The Ansons were at an altitude of 1,000 feet when they made a banking turn. Fuller lost sight of Hewson’s aircraft beneath him and the two Ansons collided amid what Fuller later described as a “grinding crash and a bang as roaring propellors struck each other and bit into the engine cowlings”.

Wolfgang Schmidt of Germany’s W&W Cycles, in 2008, led an epic motorcycle expedition along the Mackenzie Ice Road in Canada’s Northwest Territories during the dead of winter, to prove a point, and the reliability of aftermarket parts

July 2nd, 2017 by admin

To understand why someone would want to ride their motorcycle under such harsh and extreme conditions, you have to go back to a 1990’s Harley-Davidson advertising campaign that implored riders to use original spare parts if they wanted a reliable ride.

Choosing to view that assertion as a challenge, the folks at W and W Cycles decided to prove that it’s actually the other way around… that aftermarket parts were just as good, if not better, when it came to reliability. And to test this theory out, Wolfgang and his team rebuilt two bikes — a 1948 Panhead and a 2006 W and W Custom Shovelhead — and took them for the long cold ride.

Wolfgang used Performance Machines wheels and brakes on the journey through the Canadian Arctic.

Nascar inspired 1960 Starliner build… every car looks better with 60s racing numbers and a sponsor down the quarter panels

May 28th, 2017 by admin

Ryan’s Starliner started off as an unfinished project, he swapped out the tired old 325 for a 390 sporting 3 Rochester 2 barrels. Replacing the engine was just the start of this primarily mechanical restoration as Ryan added air ride suspension, four-wheel power disc brakes, custom side pipe exhaust that runs through the frame, new wheels and tires and a floor mounted shifter. The interior looks mostly original as he left the bench seat and didn’t install a roll cage. He did, however, make some of the neatest door panels around.
