this year, the EAA show at Oshkosh did not get a special edition Mustang, breaking a 8 year string of innovative upgraded Stangs. This year they got a Raptor, and it’s got some cool details

August 8th, 2017 by admin

Ford has raised more than $3 million for the annual event since 2008 by creating collector’s edition vehicles, with the F-22 F-150 Raptor this years special edition.

The finer details are the grill, and the side mirrors have a similar jet plane outlined lights, green and red, for port and starboard. I dig that

The F-22 F-150 Raptor was purchased by Gary Ackerman of Gaudin Ford in Las Vegas, Nevada. The vehicle has found the perfect home in that Ackerman serves as Honorary Commander/Ambassador for the United States Airforce’s F-22 Squadron at Nellis Airforce Base in Nevada.

Nicole Rush, Ford designer, and the Ford design fabrication team headed up interior enhancements. With the loftiest of expectations for unrivaled care and precision, building the F-22 F-150 Raptor was entrusted to Brad and Doug DeBerti at internationally renowned DeBerti Design. Betancourt says Ford could not have asked for a more purposeful execution of its vision than what the DeBerti team accomplished.

to see the special edition Mustangs:

Ford has a small problem. 1.33 million Ford Explorers, primarily police fleet vehicles, are under scrutiny for making the inhabitants sick from Carbon Monoxide poisoning. That’s serious shit.

When the fleet level installation of police equipment occurred in Explorers, the holes in the floor weren’t sealed right. That lets in engine exhaust.

Plus, U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said it recently learned that the police version of the 2011-2017 Ford Explorer was experiencing exhaust manifold cracks.

The city of Austin, Texas said Friday it was removing all 400 of the city’s Ford Explorer SUVs from use.

More than 60 Austin officers filed workers compensation claims in the last five months, citing exposure to carbon monoxide.

In 1903, St. Cloud bicycle-store owner Stephen Tenvoorde signed a dealership agreement with Ford Motor Co. to sell cars. Today, Tenvoorde Ford is the world’s oldest Ford dealership.

April 27th, 2017 by admin

Stephen Tenvoorde was an industrious young man. He started his own blacksmith shop in his twenties. Then he started selling bicycles, he repaired them too. He loved to tinker.

“Evidently when the first automobile came out it caught his interest,” Jack Tenvoorde says. “So he brought the first automobile to St. Cloud, a Milwaukee Steamer, up the Oxen trail from Minneapolis. That was in 1899

in 1903 he went to meet Henry Ford, and he was the 2nd person to become a dealer… but the 1st person has long since sold out, and doesn’t get to be the oldest dealership after that moment of sale.

During World War II Cy Tenvoorde was forced to lay off all of his salesmen, except one. The dealership concentrated on repairing carburetors, fuel pumps, generators, ignitions, distributors, transmissions, crankshafts and re-building engines

Used cars were repaired and put on sale. It sold service by encouraging people, through advertising, to keep their cars in good repair. The purchase of a crankshaft grinder that cost a shocking $8,000 at the time eventually paid for itself through repairs. Against all odds, business grew.

The company reached the point where it was rebuilding an average of 125 engines a month for retail customers and several competitive dealerships. ‘Dad made more at that business than he did selling cars,’ said Jack Tenvoorde. ‘When the war was over, Ford put in its own official factory machine to rebuild engines, and put him out of that business.’

the 5th generation of the Tenvoorde family started working at the dealership in 2003, just like all the generations of the family before him, he started with washing cars. Well, his granddad also ran a tractor for demonstrations when needed, back when Henry Ford required all dealerships to have a tractor in the showroom.

Ford finally released some track times, and hp numbers… they have a supercar for sure.

January 28th, 2017 by admin

After two years of pure speculation, the Blue Oval released official power figures, top speed, and some lap times

In production spec, the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 produces 647 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque. 216 mph

Ford set up a 3 way clocked competition, if that one sided bias can be at all honest, and said that their GT lapped the Calabogie Motorsports Park in Canada, with a fastest lap of 2:09.8, besting a McLaren 675LT by 1.08-second, and a Ferrari 458 Speciale by 3.1 seconds.

Now, I’m not a McLaren and Ferrari expert, hell, I’m not even someone who is likely to ever drive any of these 3… so I don’t know if those are the right models to compete with the Ford, or if Ford is making hay with out any independant unbiased Stig to give each the same track effort.

That was the beauty of Top Gear… the cars weren’t being driven on the track by someone who would soft show it to get better results for their favorite manufacturer. That leaderboard was about as honest as you’ll ever see. The rainy track times did throw things off a bit, but, reality bites, and we can only care so much about the stats of cars we aren’t shopping for anyway.
