a 1903 curved dash Olds that Ransom Olds himself put together in the late 1940s specifically to donate it to the Michigan State University

R.E. Olds donated a 1903 Curved Dash Oldsmobile to the Michigan State University Museum in 1949 to display for future generations.

MSU displayed the Olds at its museum for more than 50 years, but retired the car when exhibits changed. It had been stored at Spartan Stadium for years.

The vehicle is unique since it was constructed between 1945 and 1948 strictly for the purpose of donating to the MSU Museum. The Curved Dash design was produced from 1901 to 1907. This particular one features parts from different years, according to Val Berryman, curator of history at the MSU Museum.

“It was put together from various parts,” Berryman said. “It’s not a car that he owned, used or ran, but just something that he put together especially to donate to MSU.”

Adcock described the vehicle as a combination of several models which R.E. created with his own personal taste.

“It’s got wheels off a 1901, but an engine of a 1903 and a lot of brass pieces that I think R.E. put on himself,” Adcock said.

Stored for 40 years, only has 550 miles on it, and only sold at auction for 17,600 thou. Was it worth the effort to store it for such a low return after 4 decades of not enjoying it?

It still has air of 1977 in the tires. These pace cars were hard to sell new, and nothing has changed.

99 year old Gladys Stroud enjoys wheeling around Las Vegas in her 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, and says the secret to long life is cigars, sex, and scotch. No argument here!

She came into the world on March 31, 1917, six days before the U.S. entered World War I and at a time when the maximum speed limit in most American cities was 10 mph.

While it’s fascinating to learn that the hamburger bun was invented in the year of her birth, it’s even more wonderful to be in the company of someone who has been around for a century and still has the good health to really enjoy life now.

Returning to New York after high school, she graduated from business school and met her first husband, Arnold Bazell. Their second child, Frank, a Green Beret, was killed in Vietnam in 1965. He was awarded the Silver Star for Valor.

Her only prescribed medications are for mild cases of high blood pressure and acid reflux. She also takes a few vitamins.

After parking the Olds the other day in her Peccole Ranch neighborhood in west Las Vegas, Gladys half-ran into her house to play mahjong.
