If you have to ask "what the hell is that" then I’m happy to say, it’s a Argentinian Torino, and ain’t it cool that we still have cars to appreciate that we’ve never seen or heard of before? Not just another Chevy!

December 13th, 2017 by admin

The Torino is an Argentinian car that was born in 1966, as a licensed redesign of the AMC Rambler by Pininfarina, produced originally by IKA ( Argentinian Kaiser industries), a partner with the Renault company that would eventually buy them out.

Mario Suárez and his son Francisco are responsible for restoring the original #1 and #2 Torinos from the three built to challenge the Europeans on their home turf in one of the most grueling races in the world. 84 hours of the 1969 Nurburgring endurance racing Marathon de la Route.

the #3 Torino resides in the Fangio museum

Fangio oversaw the IKA-Renault Torino effort at the Nürburgring and his son was among the team of of Argentinian drivers assigned to the three cars.

Fangio traveled with the team to the ‘Ring to guide the cars around both the Nord and Südschleife, and though the team would complete the most laps with their #3 car (the other two, #1 and #2, retired early), an assortment of time penalties would see the Torino finish in fourth place officially.

At the end of 84 hours, only one of the three Torinos finished, and though it completed the most distance, it was penalized because of the high decibels of the exhaust, and so a Lancia Fulvia HF finished as the winner officially.

That race represented a remarkable milestone in the Argentinian motoring history, and it proved the country could build cars that could compete with the likes of Porsche, Lancia, Ford, etc.

the #2 car, with the yellow nose, has an astonishing rebuild story:

Mario or his son decided to search in old magazines in order to find information about what really happened. In one from 1971 a driver called Juan Carlos Palma was said to have bought a Torino to compete in the TC series, and that the vehicle was the #2 car ran at the Nürburgring.

When searching for Palma they figured they could find his phone number by his mechanic that was also mentioned in the article. So, the number was got from him and then they called Palma.

With the license plate number that Palma had they went to the Registry to look for the report and

As of March 1st, 2017, new drivers in the UK who are caught using a phone at the wheel will lose their licence

March 18th, 2017 by admin

From Mar 1st, anyone found calling, texting or using an app while driving will face a £200 on-the-spot fine and six points on their licence in the UK.

It means that new drivers – who can lose a maximum of six points before being banned for the first two years after passing their test– will face an immediate ban for sending a single text message.

“Everyone has a part to play in encouraging their family and friends not to use their phones while driving. It is as inexcusable as drink driving.” Chris Grayling, the Transport Secretary

According to research, the proportion of people who think it is acceptable to take a short phone call while driving has doubled in the last two years.

More experienced motorists can lose their licence if they receive 12 points in a three-year period.

It follows a tragic incident in which Polish lorry driver Tomasz Kroker killed four members of the same family after failing to stop while scrolling through music on his phone.

‘Leave It to Beaver’ actor who played Wally was just reunited with his 1st car, a ‘62 Corvair he bought when 16. The man he sold it to 50 years ago died and left instructions to return the car to the former actor.

June 23rd, 2016 by admin

The Corvair in question was Dow’s first car, purchased during the show’s original run. He drove the car for four years, until soon after the show ended. At that point, he sold the car to Alan Dadisman, who built props for Universal.

More than 50 years passed without a word about the car’s whereabouts, until the phone rang recently. “[H]e and his wife, Lauren, received a call recently from a stranger who identified himself as Marty Tryon,” reads a piece in the San Diego Union-Tribune. “The caller…explained that a dear friend had recently passed away and had asked Marty to track down Dow, the Spyder’s former owner, and give him the Corvair. Dadisman thought the actor might like to have his first car back.”

Dow remembered that it was Alan Dadisman’s first car, too. “Who keeps a car for 51 years, then goes to the effort to try to find its former owner to give it back,” Dow asked.

“At first I thought this guy was kidding,” said Dow, who lives near Malibu. “Who keeps a car for 51 years, then goes to the effort to try to find its former owner to give it back? It was Al’s first car, too,” he added.

Not knowing in what kind of shape the Corvair would be, it hadn’t been moved for seven years , but had been restified in 1987 with blue lacquer paint, new wheels, an updated dash and and a beefed-up engine. “It was gorgeous,” said Dow.“I still can’t believe it.”

The Dows hired a tow truck driver to transport it to their home on a flatbed where Tony plans to be behind the wheel once again.

Your tax dollars at work:

I was working as the Internet Sales Manager for the dealer group that included Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, and Kia when a phone call came in from a local state assemblywoman’s office. The staffer was frantic and looking for a Lincoln Towncar Signature L. These had been discontinued from regular production at the time but had been available for special fleet orders, but production was done so they were few and far between. The staffer told me that he needed two Black on Black Towncars. One for the local office and one for the Sacramento office. I put him on hold and did a search find that there were none within 500 miles and with Southern California being the hub of the automotive industry and the largest market if we did not have it, no one did.

So I google the assemblywoman’s name and find countless bills, speeches, and articles on her green legislation, hybrid car bills, and other general tree huggery. I pick the phone back up and tell the staffer “good news I have the cars you are looking for in stock. Black on Black Ford Escape Hybrids”…. Complete silence on the other end. “Well seeing as the assemblywoman is so concerned about the environment that she keeps passing laws regulating the cars we should drive and the types of cars we should have in California, I thought she would like a car that gets double the gas mileage of a Towncar, and costs about $15,000 less” the staffer flies off the handle. “She cannot be seen in something like that she needs a prestigious car for entertaining dignitaries… if you are not willing to help us we will go to someone that will” At that point I was just laughing a the idea of a state assembly member “entertaining dignitaries”. They wanted to spend almost $100,000 for two Towncars so some hack can be driven around in by a staffer like she was the president….they did find them from a dealer in Nevada that orders them for the casinos…your tax dollars at work.

AAA car insurance wants you to get a quote, and will enter you in a free gas giveaway ($15,000 worth)

From my experience, and not as a customer because I have Allstate insurance, AAA is the 2nd best for cost, 1st for service, and I have no doubt will beat Geico, State Farm, and Farmers… they already proved that those other companies are more expensive. No one has proved to me to have better customer service for on the phone or roadside.

I think, but didn’t verify, that this license plate collection has one California plate from each year

There is a story about the above outdoor phone booth… it was knocked off it’s foundation after a birth of a baby celebration got a bit inebriated behind the wheel…. anyway, the next day the phone company man was smooth talked and he told them about the below indoor wooden phone booth that was taking up space in the phone company basement… and they got it to add to the collection!

I didn’t get the info on what kind of bike the above is

Above appears to be a 1938 Ford
